Occupation: Communications Officer
Position: Percussion
Date joined: November 2009
Previous brass bands: Knottingley Silver Band, Skelmanthorpe Brass Band, Tingley Brass Band, Meltham and Meltham Mills Band, Drighlington Band, Linthwaite Brass Band (all as a deputising player)
Favourite brass band piece: Brass Triumphant
Best brass banding moment: Coming third in my first Yorkshire Area Contest.
Player history: I began playing the violin aged 8 at primary school in Leeds, having tried to play a few different instruments (clarinet, cornet and recorder at least). However, blowing wasn’t really my thing and I much preferred the stringed instruments. I conduct the Morley And District Concert Band, having played for them since 1998. I was persuaded to join Grange Moor after they needed someone to hit things at the back… and I’m still here today.
Interesting fact: I have only ever had one percussion lesson in my life.
