Grange Moor Brass Band are delighted to announce the appointment of Matthew Asher as our new Musical Director following a lengthy audition process.
Matthew joins us with huge experience in the brass band community. He currently plays percussion with Brighouse & Rastrick Band and has done for the last 9 years, but has also played with Hepworth, Yorkshire Imperial Brass Band, Yorkshire Youth Brass Band and Sellers International beginning his brass band career at Grange Moor Brass Band in 2001 at the age of 11.
Matthew studied Music at Huddersfield University and The Royal Northern College of Music and is currently Head of Music at a Manchester secondary school.
A band spokesperson said, “The whole band greatly enjoyed Matthew’s audition evening with us and we are looking forward to a bright future together.”
On his appointment, Matthew has said, “It was such an honour to be asked to conduct Grange Moor, having previously played for the band. I can’t wait to get started on a new musical adventure and give something back to the band that taught me so much at a young age.”
Matthew’s first engagement with the band will be on April 14th at Kirkheaton Chapel for our annual Spring concert to raise funds for Kirkwood Hospice.
