Grange Moor Brass Band recently took part in the Bold As Brass entertainment contest, held at the National Coal Mining Museum for England – a fantastic local event that celebrates the enduring spirit and talent of Yorkshire’s brass banding community.
It was a real pleasure to perform in such a unique and atmospheric venue, surrounded by the rich industrial heritage of our area. The band presented a varied programme that showcased our musical versatility, from traditional marches to well-loved melodies and heartfelt solos.
The remarks from Ryan Watkins said that the band gave a “fabulous show” with “a classy soloist with an excellent MD [Alan Jazwinski]”.
Our programme included:
March: The Standard of St. George – Kenneth J. Alford
March: Kenilworth – Edwin Firth
Someone To Watch Over Me – George Gershwin, arranged by Alan Fernie
Blessed Assurance – Phoebe Palmer Knapp, arranged by Simon Wood (featuring soloist Tony Robertson)
Bring Me Sunshine – Arthur Kent, arranged by Christopher Bond
Highland Cathedral – Ulrich Roever and Michael Korb, arranged by Howard Lorriman
Special thanks go to Rob and Kriss of Broadnib Music for their excellent recording of our performance — it’s always great to have moments like these captured and shared.
We’re incredibly proud of our band’s efforts and grateful for the warm reception from the audience and fellow bands. Events like Bold As Brass are a reminder of the joy and connection live music brings, and we look forward to taking part again in future years!
